Since 2007, the humanitarian aid organization has been partnering with Southern Baptist donors to fund disaster relief and community development projects around the world. And, BGR hopes to celebrate the milestone in August by … [Read more...]
BGR’s Palmer casts partnership vision
JEFFERSON CITY – Baptist Global Response took on 283 projects in the name of humanitarian aid last year, many in areas that are officially closed to the gospel. Yet despite that and despite nearly a quarter of a million people hearing the good news through their work, many Baptists are unaware of BGR’s work and mission. The president of Baptist Global Response, Jeff Palmer, spoke in mid-Missouri twice in late July, once at the Baptist Building July 22 and at Review Baptist Church, Osage … [Read more...]

PHOENIX (BP) – Through Southern Baptists’ “faithful, generous and consistent giving” of more than $98 million to the Cooperative Program and approximately $153 million to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, the International Mission Board has reached financially stability, IMB President David Platt told the entity’s trustees June 12. “That’s breathtaking: over $250 million given from Southern Baptist churches for the spread of the Gospel among the nations,” Platt said. “And as a result … [Read more...]
Contagious missions
One of my first memories of missions was when I was only 3 and my dad went with a short-term mission team to Guatemala in March 1978 following a massive earthquake there. My dad was part of our church’s second team who went to help Guatemalans after that tragedy. The first team worked alongside our Foreign Mission Board (now the IMB) missionaries to rebuild Damascus Baptist Church in Guatemala City. The second team went to the village of Santo Domingo Xenaco outside Guatemala City to … [Read more...]

Southern Baptists gave $153 million through the 2016-17 campaign to support International Mission Board field personnel. Every dollar given to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering (LMCO) supports … [Read more...]
Hillcrest Baptist Church, Lebanon, sees divine appointments in Africa
WEST AFRICA – During the past six years, the members of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Lebanon, have seen God move among the people of West Africa along the arid fringes of the Sahara Desert. Pastor David Brown said he has been amazed by the “divine appointments” that God has placed in the path of mission teams from the church as they’ve engaged a people group here. “God puts people before you, and maybe they’ll tell you that God has spoken to them in a dream,” Brown said, “and they’ve … [Read more...]
Baptists make disciples, multiply churches, develop leaders in Italy
VENETO, Italy – There’s a church on every block in northeastern Italy. At least, there are church buildings on every block. Most of them now stand empty or have been converted into museums, pizza joints or banks. Kevin Finch, a member of First Baptist Church, De Soto, said he noticed these relics from Italy’s Christian past during two mission trips he took with the church during the past six months. He also noticed Italy’s spiritual darkness. Despite the nation’s history, very few people … [Read more...]
Lottie on pace for historic drop
RICHMOND, Va. —The Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee has released data showing relatively stable Cooperative Program giving but a flagging Lottie Moon Christmas Offering that is trending toward a record single-year fall. Comparing receipts from Oct. 2016 through Mar. 2017 with totals for the same period a year ago, gifts through the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists’ primary channel for funding all national causes, are down less than one percent, or about $967,597 below … [Read more...]
Church at Three Trails seeks to grow through missions
ZACATELCO, Mexico – The Church at Three Trails didn’t seek out a partnership with Iglesia Bautista Maranatha in the city of Zacatelco. God sought them out. It began last fall when pastor Brian Grout attended the Partnership Missions luncheon during the Missouri Baptist Convention’s Annual Meeting in St. Charles. There he heard of partial scholarships available if he and another church member were interested in a vision trip. A recent church “replant” that itself has planted a local … [Read more...]
