Southern Baptists encourage prayer for persecuted church today (June 29)

Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) is honoring Perpetua and all persecuted Christians, June 29, as it recognizes the annual day VOM founded in 2019, spotlighting the martyr in its annual video and providing free digital resources to help Christians recognize those who risk their lives to spread the gospel. Southern Baptists are among many denominations that recognize the observance, encouraged by VOM vice president and spokesperson Todd Nettleton.

A lethal pair of earthquakes struck Venezuela late in the evening of Wednesday, June 24. Initial reports indicated that 164 people lost their lives. Hundreds more were injured while others were reported missing.

The Hamas attack on Israel and rioting against Ahmadi Muslims in Bangladesh were among rising social hostilities targeting religious groups globally in 2023, Pew Research Center said in releasing its latest numbers in the trend, while Russia’s war on Ukraine elevated such incidents in Europe.

Southern Baptists celebrate 63 new IMB missionaries at SBC annual meeting

Southern Baptists celebrated 63 new International Mission Board missionaries during the June 9 opening session of the SBC annual meeting in Orlando. As missionaries took the stage and stood on the floor of the Orange County Convention Center, church messengers listened as they described their callings and expressed gratitude for support of their Great Commission work.

The event was held in conjunction with the SBC annual meeting in Orlando. The theme of the evening resonated across screens: Together, We Sustain Gospel Presence.

Christians in India denied clean water, jobs, food in ongoing religious persecution

Hundreds of Christians in central India have been denied clean water, fresh produce and employment for nearly a month in unsuccessful attempts to force them to denounce Christianity, International Christian Concern (ICC) reported May 29.
