The fight for life continues in Missouri

On July 3, according to a press release from Missouri Right to Life, “Jackson County Judge Jerri Zhang released a dangerous ruling for the 3rd time to remove almost all health and safety standards for abortions.”

Marriage: God’s wonderful, often controversial gift

Ten years ago this month, the U.S. Supreme Court illegitimately redefined marriage in the case Obergefell v. Hodges—illegitimately, that is, because a human court has no authority to redefine an institution put in place by God. Lest we think that marriage has only made controversial headlines during the past 10 years, it’s good to remember also that marriage lay at the center of controversy 500 years ago, as well.

MODR remains active; an Easter season prayer for protection

Missouri Disaster Relief (MODR) remains active this month. Not only are volunteer MODR teams still responding to the March 14th tornadoes, but they’ve been active in recent months responding to fires in California and last fall’s hurricane on the East Coast. They have worked, literally, from coast to coast. Then, early this month, tornadoes hit the state again.

Christian baptism can be costly, rewarding

As many believers across the globe have painfully learned in ages past and present, “going public” with our faith can invite criticism and hardship. A silent, unseen believer never suffers for his or her faith. Then again, going public with our faith through baptism also bears fruit through fellowship with other believers and through lives transformed by our public testimony to the gospel.

Stand against ungodliness, celebrate fruitful ministry

Missouri Baptists must stand for truth and oppose ungodliness in our culture, but we’re also fortunate to be able to celebrate much good and many godly ministries and people.

Pray for life, for elected officials, for the nations

For many years, I’ve loved reading about the lives of George Mueller and Brother Andrew – men whose ministries were built on prayer and whose hearts were brimming over with confidence in God’s faithfulness.

Does archeology shed light on the Nativity story?

With these insights from biblical archeology, we begin to get a different impression about what happened on the day of Christ’s birth.

Amendment 3: ‘Our work has only begun’

"Our work is only beginning. Thousands of pre-born babies will be murdered each year because of Amendment 3. Pastors and churches must begin planning now about how they can minister to women and families in their own communities and convince them to choose life for their babies. Moreover, pregnancy help centers – as well as pro-life ministries like the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home – will need our increasing support as they try to save and care for infants and families."

‘Crown Him the Lord of life’: Vote ‘No’ on Amendment 3

During the next week, please pray that a culture of life would infuse our state and that Amendment 3 would be defeated. Pray that those who are spiritually dead would find eternal life in Christ. And pray that Christians and churches across Missouri would find spiritual renewal and restoration by abiding in the only Lord who can give us abundant life. In doing so, may we “crown Him the Lord of life.”

An urgent call to fast, pray

I want to urge Missouri Baptists and other Christians across our state and nation to set aside regular times of prayer and fasting prior to the election on Nov. 5. Let us examine our own hearts and repent of our own sins. Then, let us pray urgently that God would bring the spiritual awakening and revival that our churches and our society so desperately need.

Religious pluralism fails, only Jesus saves

Not for the first time, the head of the Roman Catholic Church sparked debate earlier this month after apparently preaching religious pluralism to crowds gathered in the southeast Asian nation of Singapore. Unfortunately, the pope isn’t the only person today who has affirmed religious pluralism – that is, the belief that all religions lead to God. But religious pluralism stumbles over Scripture's exclusive claims about Jesus Christ.

Pray against, vote against, preach against pro-abortion Amendment 3

The Missouri Supreme Court has now scheduled a hearing regarding Amendment 3 at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10.  Many observers expect them to issue a ruling later that day. Let me urge Missouri Baptists to stop what they're doing tomorrow morning and pray that the Missouri Supreme Court will affirm Limbaugh's ruling and take Amendment 3 off the state ballot.
