WHEATLAND – Roaring stock cars weren’t the only things ringing in the ears of race fans at Lucas Oil Speedway April 21. FindItHere.com’s web address boomed through loud speakers so many times that night, it was impossible for the thousands of people at the speedway to not know the night’s races’ sponsor. The evangelistic website was front and center several ways during four dirt-track races sponsored by the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) via a grant from the North American Mission … [Read more...]

Cape Fair jail minister shows no fear in regular routine
GALENA—Harold Stanley, assistant chaplain in the Stone County Jail Ministry and a member of First Baptist Church, Cape Fair, described the strength of his calling as he continues to serve the Lord. As he walked into the Stone County jail for the first time, a man asked him if he was afraid. “I’ve been shot twice, I’ve fought in two wars, I’ve been married to the same woman for 48 years, and I’ve got cancer,” Stanley said. “What are you going to do to me? You just feel that grace surround … [Read more...]
Answering the call to serve in the MBC
Nehemiah had a good job. He was employed by a king and had earned tremendous respect in the Persian kingdom. His job was not exactly easy; a bad day for a king’s cupbearer could be deadly. Nonetheless, Nehemiah worked hard and was a positive presence within King Artaxerxes inner circle. Nehemiah’s life had meaning. What more could he want? One day while Nehemiah was performing his duties to the king, he met a man from Judah named Hanani. Hanani told him that Nehemiah’s ancestral home of … [Read more...]
Why I am pro-life
To the core I am pro-life because God’s Word is uncompromisingly pro-life. To wrench anything contrary from God’s Word is to commit one of the more violent crimes against Scripture, a crime which bears a very high penalty. And while God’s Word tells us over and over again, in many ways, the truth of the sanctity of human life – He uses both His creation around us, and within us, to confirm such truths. In a very special way the Lord prepared my heart for His truth long before I could … [Read more...]

Efforts to end abortions in Missouri are working. Missouri women had 1,019 fewer abortions in 2010 than in 2009, a 9.4 percent decrease, according to Missouri State Health Department statistics. The 9,796 abortions performed in Missouri in 2010 represented the fewest since 1973. In the past decade, Missouri Southern Baptists have been at the forefront of attempts to save the state’s unborn. The Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) has passed several pro-life resolutions at its annual … [Read more...]

Pregnancy center tax relief mulled
JEFFERSON CITY – Tax credits for pregnancy resource center and food pantry donations seemed to be one of the main focuses of Missouri Baptist Convention’s (MBC) initial lobbying efforts as this year’s General Assembly session opened Jan. 4. The pregnancy resource center credits will expire later this year and the food pantry … [Read more...]
Patterson discusses SBC name change task force recommendation
FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary president Paige Patterson has historically advocated changing the name of the Southern Baptist Convention to more accurately describe the scope of the convention’s mission. However, as a member of the task force appointed last fall by SBC president Bryant Wright, Patterson agrees with his fellow task force members that the issue is more complicated than many might think. “I’ve always been in favor of a name change, but … [Read more...]

HANNIBAL – President Obama’s “compromise” in a recent mandate that would require religious institutions like Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU) to pay for abortion-causing drugs got an F from the school’s board of trustees. During their Feb. 10 meeting, the board unanimously adopted a statement denouncing what HLGU’s president, Woody Burt, called a violation of conscience and religious liberty. The statement was drafted before the president announced a compromise that would shift the cost … [Read more...]
Hinkle: Obama exposes contempt for religious liberty
Think whatever you want about Rick Santorum as a presidential candidate, but like any good lawyer he asks the right question at the most critical point in time. America has reached such a moment because our president is perpetrating – through his health care plan – one of the most egregious attacks on religious freedom our nation has seen. Thus Santorum’s question for the moment: “When you marginalize faith in America, when you remove the pillar of God-given rights, then what’s left?“ Why … [Read more...]
