Truth and Unity Amendment receives initial two-thirds approval

An amendment specifying the role of pastor and the act of preaching as limited to men, brought by Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Albert Mohler, received the first of two required two-thirds votes by messengers on June 10 to become part of the SBC Constitution. Among 8,074 votes cast, reported registration secretary Don Currence, 6,028 (76.66 percent) were in favor of the amendment. There were 2,026 (25.9 percent) votes against. Twenty votes were disallowed.

Mohler amendment scheduled for Wednesday consideration

Southern Baptist Convention messengers voted June 9 to consider Albert Mohler’s “Truth and Unity” amendment to the SBC Constitution at this year’s Annual Meeting. They also effectively killed six motions requesting the appointment of task forces to study a range of issues.

As missionaries took the stage and stood on the floor of the Orange County Convention Center, church messengers listened as they described their callings and expressed gratitude for support of their Great Commission work.

Diverse group of churches, ministries come together for evangelism through Crossover Orlando

Twenty-eight years ago, members from First Baptist Church in Kissimmee began to pray that the church might someday own the field that adjoined their church property. As part of the events surrounding Crossover from June 1 to June 6, the church hosted its first outreach efforts on the land they recently acquired. FBC Kissimmee is one of more than 50 churches in and around the Orlando area that hosted Crossover outreach events.

Proposed CP budget makes missions top priority

Later this month, for the first time, Southern Baptists will have a chance to adopt a budget that will send 51 percent of all Cooperative Program receipts to the foreign mission field. IMB President Paul Chitwood said the move shows global missions is a “first priority” for Southern Baptists.

Recovery group boosts community choir organized by MBC churches

Cathy Kelso, pianist and worship leader of First Baptist Church, Lewistown, was trying to pull together a community choir, and women from four churches in the Mt. Salem/Wyaconda Southern Baptist Association volunteered to participate in the choir. But Kelso had a problem. “We needed men,” she said.

IMB trustees appoint 71 missionaries, look toward deep investment in Great Commission task

International Mission Board trustees appointed 71 fully supported missionaries during their May 13-14 meeting near Richmond, Va. Missionaries approved for appointment will be recognized during a Sending Celebration on Tuesday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. EDT. The event will be livestreamed on SBC annual meeting website.

Missouri Baptists support missionary housing renovation with $300,000 gift to the IMB

Because of the faithful giving of Missouri Baptist churches through the Cooperative Program, the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) was able to deliver a special $300,000 gift to the International Mission Board (IMB) last month. The gift, which came out of the MBC’s 2025 underspend, will be used to help renovate missionary housing at the IMB’s International Learning Center in Virginia.
