May we never become numb

My prayer would be for all of us, myself included, to see sin and lostness afresh. May our hearts always be convicted over sin that can so easily entangle, and may we never become numb towards those who are lost and perishing.

How can we act so normal?

At some point, if we truly believe what we claim to believe, we must ask, “How can we act so normal?” Let me encourage you, and maybe even challenge you, to reflect on your proximity to the lost. Reflect on the ramifications of acting so normal around those who may very well be heading towards eternal death. And as you reflect, let me further encourage you to be abnormal. Let’s do our best to make Jesus known to those who are perishing.

My beautiful wife, Tara, was recently blessed with an opportunity to serve alongside a few of our International Mission Board missionaries in Zambia. Simply put, the experience was incredible! On Saturday, July 13, I was watching the news with my 11-year-old little girl when the shots were fired. I immediately knew something was very wrong, so I called Tara into the living room to watch the news coverage. All I could say is, "This is not good. This is not good at all."

Why should the issue of abortion matter to Missouri Baptists?

Human life is distinct, sacred, and of great worth. Destroying human life through abortion is wrong. If we end up voting on this issue in November, I’m choosing life – and I would humbly ask you to do the same. If we’re truly made by God, in the image of God, and for the glory of God, how can we choose otherwise?

In 20-plus years of ministry, I’ve certainly learned the importance, as well as the blessing, of serving alongside a talented staff. I’ve heard it said that a difficult situation can immediately be improved by the right person, and a great situation can immediately be damaged by the wrong person. If you’ve been in leadership any length of time, you know from experience this is true. Surrounding yourself with the right people is essential. With this foundation in mind, I’m excited to announce that I’ve asked Rob Phillips to serve as the Associate Executive Director of the Missouri Baptist Convention.
