Not worth the gamble

In a unique move, the Osage Nation has proposed a new casino at Lake of the Ozarks under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), which means it would not be subject to approval by Missourians. It would, however, need approval from the BIA (which is all but certain), as well as approval from the governor. Therefore, even though Amendment 5 was rejected, and even though Missourians have spoken, plans are still moving forward to build a new casino.

Trusting the One who calls us

We need to remember that our assignment – our calling – is much larger than ourselves. In ministry, we are part of God’s great redemptive story for all of humanity. God may very well allow us to see the fruit of our labor next week, it might take 15 years, or we may learn of it one day in glory. Regardless, our aim must be to trust the One who called us and remain faithful to the mission.

The blessing of staying

What encouragement would I give to a young, frustrated, pastor? Stay faithful, keep serving, keep loving, keep preaching, keep shepherding. Don’t overestimate where the church should be in a year, but never underestimate what the Lord can do with long-term faithfulness.

It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it!

The truth is that cooperation on a scale the size of the MBC, or especially the SBC, requires grace, patience, flexibility, perseverance, collaboration, and trust. Is it always easy? No. Is the process always smooth? No. Will we always agree with everything? No. But is cooperation for the sake of the gospel worth the effort?  Yes, cooperation is absolutely worth the effort.
