In 1 Corinthians 13:13, the apostle Paul writes, “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” Why? Why would Paul write that “the greatest of these is love”? Well, let’s look at what Jesus defines as love. In the Gospel of John 15:13-14, Jesus says to his disciples, “Greater love has no one that this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.” Love is most important because love is central … [Read more...]
Give thanks to the Lord … even when it’s hard!
EDITOR'S NOTE: James Morrow is vice president for the MBCH Foundation. The Bible makes it clear to us as followers of Christ it is our responsibility to give thanks to God in all the seasons of our lives. We know this is especially true right now. As believers things are changing rapidly before our eyes. Some of the logical and foundational views that we have all held are being challenged and overturned. This process can cause us real discouragement. What do we do as believers when we … [Read more...]
Tax credits: A great way to advance the Kingdom
For years, the MBCH Children and Family Ministries (MBCH-CFM) and The LIGHT House have had access to Missouri state tax credits. These tax credits were approved and continue to be approved by the Missouri state legislature and governor because they are a way for state government to come along side private nonprofits to provide much needed services. Tax credits allow Missouri donors to qualifying nonprofits to give more with a greater tax benefit. Now MBCH-CFM and The LIGHT House have some … [Read more...]
You can choose how your tax dollars are spent
When I was a Regional Representative in NE-MO and the St. Louis metro area I had the opportunity to work with many Missouri Baptist churches, church members and church leaders. These people of faith became my dear friends and one of the things I miss most is having fewer opportunities to interact with them throughout the week and on Sundays. I often spoke at churches on the weekends because at Missouri Baptist Children’s Home (MBCH) we believe that Missouri Baptists deserve 1) to hear how … [Read more...]
Tax credits a great way to increase your support
We are headed into the final quarter of 2020, and quickly approaching the end of the year. Wow! Where has the year gone? It seems like just yesterday we were shaking off the cold of winter and looking forward to Easter. Maybe all of the things that have made this year so unusual have sped up time! This is an important season for Missouri Baptist Children’s Home (MBCH). More than half of our financial support is generously donated in the last quarter of the year. This support helps us … [Read more...]
God is faithful, let us remain faithful
One of my favorite verses in all of scripture is 2 Timothy 2:13, which says, “if we are faithless, He remains faithful – for He cannot deny Himself.” (ESV). To me this verse speaks to one of God’s most reassuring character qualities and that is His unfailing faithfulness. The older I get, and more aware of my need for His grace I become, the more precious this truth becomes to me. God is not faithful to me because I deserve it or have somehow earned it but because He has decided to be a … [Read more...]
Testimony: ‘God always provided!’
Some conversations are never forgotten! A poignant sentence at an impressionable time in my early teen years opened my eyes to the stewardship of my parents and the faithfulness of God. This single sentence challenged me to live responsibly as a steward of my finances. I grew up in a large family. I was the middle child with three older sisters and three younger brothers. My mother came to know the Lord as a young girl when someone in her neighborhood noticed that her family didn’t go to … [Read more...]
Christ’s parable of the talents applied
One of my favorite of Jesus’ parables is the Parable of the Talents. I’m sure you know the story well. In this parable a certain Master entrusts his servants with five, two and one talent of money respectively. The servants handle the administration of their Master’s resources differently. The servants entrusted with five talents and two talents each go out and put their Master’s money to work so that when the Master returns they will not only be able to return the principle but earnings … [Read more...]
Change children’s lives by sending them to camp
Before moving into my current role at MBCH Foundation I worked as a Regional Representative for northeast Missouri and the St. Louis metro area. I loved being on the road every day and meeting with Missouri Baptist Children’s Home (MBCH) supporters from all walks of life. During this time two things came to stand out to me: first, MBCH is blessed to have incredibly generous and genuinely Christ following supporters, and second, our local Missouri Baptist church leadership are unsung … [Read more...]
