All human life is sacred

January 28, 2022 By Derald Harris

In June, my daughter gave birth to twin boys. Less than two months later, my mother-in-law left this earth to begin her heavenly reward just a week before her 91st birthday. Two new lives began their amazing adventure in this world. One completed a lifetime of service and ministry as an international missionary and pastor’s wife who touched thousands with the love of Jesus Christ. All three lives have been ordained by God and are sacred in His eyes. I pray that my new grandsons (and my … [Read more...]

We find heroes all around us

May 4, 2020 By Derald Harris

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be at the forefront of most people’s minds. It has affected nearly every aspect of our lives, from how we buy groceries to how we interact with other people to how much gasoline we burn in our cars to how we worship. The pandemic has also given prominence to a type of person we should honor every day, not just in a crisis. These people are called “heroes.” The doctors, nurses, respiratory technicians, healthcare workers, EMTs, paramedics and other first … [Read more...]

Healing, restoration begin with forgiveness

October 1, 2019 By Derald Harris

I recently attended a conference in Charleston, South Carolina, of development and public relations professionals from Southern Baptist child care agencies. For more than 130 years, Missouri Baptist Children’s Home (MBCH) has been “serving God by responding to the needs of children, youth and families.” Most Missouri Baptists would say that they are familiar with MBCH. Many would say that they support the Children’s Home and pray for the children and staff regularly. But when it comes to describing what the Children’s Home does and where it is located, most people struggle. That is because MBCH takes the part of its mission statement that says … [Read more...]

MBCH blesses 700 children with Christmas gifts

December 13, 2018 By Derald Harris

Missouri Baptist Children’s Home has been inundated by Christmas gifts provided by generous churches and Christian people for the children and youth in our care. This year, more than 700 children in all MBCH ministries will receive Christmas gifts because of these generous contributions. From decades of experience, we know many of our children begin to see God’s love through the generosity of Christian people at Christmas. You will never fully know the joy you create in our children when … [Read more...]

NYT backtracks marijuana advocacy amid cultural rethinking of legalization

David Roach

Americans may be rethinking their affinity for marijuana, evidenced by a New York Times reversal on the issue and a study suggesting scant evidence supporting medical marijuana’s use in mental health.
