LADDONIA – To paraphrase an adage, First Baptist Church here has found the mission field, and it is among them. On July 15-17, some 15 church members plus another five from Texas County Baptist Association had service projects in Laddonia and nearby Martinsburg. Pastor Chris Atkinson said Community Action was contacted for people needing help. That weekend, the group in two teams painted one house and partially re-roofed another home. That Saturday night the movie Woodlawn was shown in … [Read more...]
Hannibal-area ministry leads addicts to gospel freedom
Perhaps the deeper the depths of sin, the better the appreciation for redemption through Jesus. James Bridges, pastor Living Way Christian Fellowship in Hannibal, has a heart for those in various addictions, especially drugs and alcohol. He knows first hand what it is like to be delivered. “I’m an ex-addict. I’ve been clean 13 years. I’ve been in prison five times for a total of 10 years,” Bridges said. “I was saved and delivered in 2003. God put a burden on my heart to reach out to … [Read more...]
God hears our prayers: A 3-month old’s testimony of healing
LEWISTOWN – Malachi Kuenzle already has a testimony, but the three-month old doesn’t know it. His family, however, has proclaimed God’s glory in their son’s news. Chris and Heather Kuenzle, Lewistown, were anxious for Malachi to join two-year old daughter Chloe. A different type of anxiety surfaced when 20 weeks into the pregnancy, Malachi was diagnosed with a kidney issue. “A hospital in Columbia said tests showed a cyst or something and one of his kidneys was bigger than the other,” … [Read more...]
Yamout: ‘God is able to save Muslims’
Muslims are being reached in the Middle East, in part by the work of a Baptist and former Muslim, Mohammad Yamout. Yamout is unabashed in his faith in Jesus Christ, which he found in a Beirut Sunday School class. Lately, he is reaching Muslims with the gospel. “God put a fire in my heart for the Muslim world. I didn’t want to do it. I was content being a businessman, but Big Daddy always wins,” Yamout told a gathering from Mt. Salem-Wyaconda Southern Baptist Association Churches May … [Read more...]
Dallas County DOM going strong at 90
DALLAS COUNTY – Age doesn’t stop the Dallas County DOM from serving. Some people are amazed that Russell Adams is still in active ministry at age 90. Perhaps no one is more surprised than Adams himself. Adams is Director of Missions for the Dallas County Association of Southern Baptists, and he oversees its 14 churches. “It’s a mystery to me. The doctor said ‘according to your (health) tests, there is no reason you shouldn’t feel good. I have no plans to retire unless the Lord says so. … [Read more...]
Super! Youth profess faith, follow ministry call during camp
During two weeks of Super Summer this June, dozens of students professed faith in Christ or followed a call to ministry. Super Summer is intentional about youth growing in Christ and leaders being developed. “The camp is for students middle school to high school from churches all around the state,” said Jason Walters, MBC staffer and co-camp director. The theme this year is “Abide,” based on John 15:5. “We teach the students how to abide in Christ. We make a point to tell them salvation … [Read more...]
Missouri pastors, wives blessed by conferences
ST. LOUIS – Missouri pastors and wives benefitted from respective conferences at the SBC annual meeting June 12-13. Jonathan Wallenbach and Bryce Kristoffereson were among first-time national annual meeting attendees. “We run 35 people in our church. It was economical for me to come to St. Louis,” Wallenbach, the pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist in Deep Water, said. “For me, I get fed as a pastor’s conference just like at the MBC annual meeting. We need to get back to the business of what … [Read more...]

ODESSA – First Baptist Church here ramped up its efforts to transform lives within their community this spring. For several years, First Odessa has had a passion for missions. Yet Mission Pastor David Vailes said that some people in the community, as well as in the church, expressed concern that they were not doing enough to reach people with the … [Read more...]
Allen addresses worldview
HANNIBAL – Christians must base their understanding of marriage and family—as well as all those issues facing the church today—on a worldview shaped by the Word of God, Anthony Allen, president of Hannibal-LaGrange University here, said during the opening of the Worldview Conference, April 14. “From a Christian worldview, we understand God has created,” Allen said. “After so much was good with creation, God found it was not good for man to be alone. Marriage was designed for companionship … [Read more...]
Mitchell talks on life, death
HANNIBAL – Especially in this high-tech society, families are often faced with serious questions about the beginning of life and about dying—questions that C. Ben Mitchell, Graves Professor of Moral Philosophy at Union University, addressed during two presentations at the Missouri Baptist Convention’s Worldview Conference, April 14. Churches are all-too-often unprepared for one beginning-of-life issue facing families in their own congregation: namely, infertility. “Infertility is like any … [Read more...]

LIBERTY – Scott Hamby, 13, died in July, 1985.
