A proposed amendment to the SBC Constitution stating the office of pastor should be held only by men was rejected by messengers, receiving approximately 60 percent of the vote, but not reaching the required two-thirds marker.
Iorg’s message addressed several issues also covered in the previous day’s Executive Committee meeting. Those included ongoing steps toward sexual abuse prevention and response, litigation and budget issues and the SBC’s Business and Financial Plan.
During the June 10 afternoon session of the SBC annual meeting in Dallas, SBC Executive Committee President Jeff Iorg led messengers in celebrating 100 years of Cooperative Program giving.
