Statewide prayer initiative announced ahead of Jan. 8 Legislative Prayer Service

JEFFERSON CITY – Lawmakers and citizens will gather for what has become a Jefferson City tradition when Concord Baptist Church, in conjunction with the Missouri Baptist Convention’s (MBC) Christian Life Commission (CLC), hosts the 21st annual Prayer Service for Missouri government leaders, Jan. 8, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. The event always marks the first day of each new session of the General Assembly.

The featured speaker for the prayer service is Wes Fowler, executive director for the Missouri Baptist Convention.

Earlier this fall, Concord and the CLC announced a related, and non-partisan, prayer initiative that aims to connect every state lawmaker with a Missouri Baptist church that is committed to pray consistently for that lawmaker and his or her family.

The prayer event and prayer initiative are based on 1 Tim 2:1-3, which commands that “entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority.”

CLC chairman Willie Isaacson is scheduled to briefly introduce the prayer initiative during the Jan. 8 prayer event.

A large number of statewide officeholders, lawmakers, legislative staff and leaders of Missouri’s judiciary are expected to attend prayer event. The prayer service is free and open to the public.
