Lifeway Research: Churchgoers may be overconfident in Old Testament knowledge

If you ask someone at church to name their favorite story from the Old Testament, they may mention Moses or Noah, but they might also talk about Jesus or Paul. Some may even begin describing a story from outside the Bible. When asked about their favorite story from the Old Testament, around 4 in 5 U.S. Protestant churchgoers share one from the first section of the Bible, according to a Lifeway Research study. More than 1 in 10 (11%), however, offer a New Testament story or book, 7% say none and 3% don’t know.

First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, tears down sanctuary site of 2017 mass murder

The site of the deadliest church shooting in the nation no longer stands, as First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas, moved forward Aug. 12 with a 2021 decision to demolish its former sanctuary.

Campus changes approved by BHHM trustees

During its latest meeting, Aug. 2, The Baptist Homes & Healthcare Ministries (BHHM) board of trustees focused on measures to improve the financial position of this Missouri Baptist ministry to the aging. In addition to hearing reports on recent decisions to close the Chillicothe campus and discontinue benevolent care, the board approved a financial faithfulness plan and established a staffing workgroup to support best practices for staffing.

His name is called the Word of God

In his Gospel account, John tells us of the person and work of Jesus as the Incarnate Word (John 1:1-18). He is eternal, divine, distinct from the Father and yet equal with him. He is the creator of everything. He added sinless humanity to his deity in the Incarnation and thus pitched his tent with sinful and fallen people. Though rejected by his own, he is the true source of light and life. And to those who trust in him, he grants the right to be God’s adopted children. He is God revealed in human flesh.

Missourians will vote on pro-abortion constitutional amendment in November

Missourians will vote, Nov. 5, on whether the right to abortion will be codified in their state's Constitution. The Missouri Secretary of State's office announced yesterday, Aug. 13, that pro-abortion advocates had gathered enough signatures to present their proposed state constitutional amendment to voters.
