Pastor, newspaperman Steinbeck ad coordinator

January 14, 2013 By The Pathway

JEFFERSON CITY – A Missouri pastor and veteran newspaperman has been named the new advertising coordinator for The Pathway, the paper announced Dec. 13.
“Dan Steinbeck brings a unique skill set to our team, having worked in journalism for more than 35 years and as a Missouri Southern Baptist bi-vocational pastor,” said Pathway Editor Don Hinkle. “He brings a level of expertise that will serve this ministry well and we are blessed to have him join us.”

Steinbeck comes from a newspaper family, one which owned The Press-News Journal in Canton until it was sold in 2010. His duties there included writing, photography, layout, advertising sales and management responsibilities. Since 2001, Steinbeck has been pastor of Southern Baptist Fellowship Church in Wayland. Prior to serving as a pastor he was a member of First Baptist Church, Canton, where he taught fifth and sixth grade Sunday school for 20 years and was a lay leader for an off-campus Baptist Student Union.

“I believe in the importance of journalism and I believe in the importance of Christians being involved in journalism,” Steinbeck said. “I am keenly aware I represent the Lord Jesus Christ in everything I do. As a pastor I am committed to fulfilling The Great Commission and I whole-heartily support the Cooperative Program. I look forward to serving Missouri Southern Baptists and Pathway advertisers.”

Steinbeck and his wife of 26 years, Carla, have two children, Andrew, a student at Truman State University and Shannon, a sophomore at Canton R-V School.
Advertisers may reach Steinbeck at 573-288-3043 or 217-242-8640 or at pathwayads@gmail.com.

Steinbeck begins his new duties Jan. 1. He joins The Pathway staff just as the newspaper embarks on its second decade of service as the Missouri Baptist Convention’s official newspaper. Also beginning Jan. 1, The Pathway will become an open circulation newspaper and will no longer charge for subscriptions. Anyone wishing to have a free Pathway mailed to their home, church or business every two weeks may call The Pathway office at 573-636-0400, Ext. 231.

Preaching ministry ‘an honor and privilege,’ Whitney says

Aiden Trimble

Brother Frank Whitney stood up, took a deep breath, and walked toward the pulpit. Bible in hand, he double-checked his notes for the Sunday evening sermon. Tonight’s topic: faith the size of a mustard seed. The crowd wasn’t any larger than usual; about 30 people. It was just another Sunday evening service, except for one detail: The preacher, Brother Whitney, was 12 years old.
