Resolutions for MBC annual meeting should be submitted by Oct. 15

August 17, 2012 By The Pathway

JEFFERSON CITY – Those with proposed resolutions for the 178th Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) annual meeting at the Millennium Hotel in St. Louis Oct. 29-31 are encouraged to submit them by Oct. 15 to the Resolutions Committee, Missouri Baptist Convention, 400 E. High Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101-3253. They may be faxed by calling 573-635-0904 or sent by E-mail: pjeffries@mobaptist.org.

Proposed resolutions should be typed, and should contain (1) the name and address of the messenger submitting each proposal; (2) name of the church that messenger will be representing; and (3) the title of the resolution.

All resolutions must also be officially submitted in person, by the registered messenger who drafted the resolution, to the MBC Recording Secretary Jamie Hitt by the end of the evening session on Oct. 29.

A resolution has traditionally been defined as an expression of opinion, as compared to a motion, which calls for action. A resolution is not used to direct a MBC entity to specific action other than to communicate the opinion or concern expressed. Resolutions are adopted during the annual meeting.

Sending resolutions in advance of the annual meeting makes possible a more thorough consideration of the resolution and expedites the committee’s work, according to the resolutions committee.

Serving on the 2012 MBC resolutions committee are Jason Davis (chairman), associate pastor/youth pastor, Bethany Baptist Church, Cape Girardeau; Carol Smith, member, Bellefontaine Baptist Church, St. Louis; Howell Burkhead, pastor, First Baptist Church, Houston; Boone Middleton, pastor, Golden Avenue Baptist Church, Springfield; and Darrel Payne, layman, Cornerstone Baptist Church, Sedalia.

HLGU asks U.S. Department of Education for protection from unconstitutional mandate

Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU), affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) since 1857, has formally requested a religious accommodation from the U.S. Department of Education from a Biden-era regulation, 34 CFR §668.14. Without timely action by the Department, the university intends to file a lawsuit seeking relief to safeguard its religious freedoms.
