JEFFERSON CITY – A former executive with Phillips Petroleum and Wal-Mart is coming to the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) executive board staff to lead its communications and public relations. Rob Phillips, 57, who most recently worked in communications at Rockwell Automation based out of Milwaukee, is the MBC’s new director communications effective June 1.
“I can’t wait to get started,” he said. “I’m going to learn as much as I can about Missouri Baptists and meet as many people as I can as quickly as possible.”
Phillips will be working directly under MBC executive director John Yeats alongside the other MBC ministry team leaders to develop communication plans for the Cooperative Program, the Missouri Missions Offering and other ministries.
In addition to his corporate experience, Phillips served as director of communications at LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention for eight years. A North American Mission Board-certified apologetics instructor, he also served as associate pastor of Bartlesville Southern Baptist Church in Bartlesville, Okla. and has taught and supply preached at churches throughout his ministry.
He also writes the apologetics/discipleship blog, www.OnceDelivered.net and penned the 2009 book, The Kingdom According to Jesus. He and his wife of 36 years, Nancy, have two children, Austin, 26, and Aubrey, 24.
