Exec. Dir. Search Committee likely to recommend candidate Oct. 13

September 16, 2011 By The Pathway

JEFFERSON CITY – A recommendation from the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) Executive Director Search Committee is likely during an Oct. 13 special called meeting of the 50-member MBC Executive Board.

It is set for 10:30 a.m., at the Baptist Building and the meeting will be held in executive session and will not be open to the public. Any recommendation of a candidate to replace David Tolliver, who resigned in January, must be approved by the Executive Board.

“The work of the committee has gone quickly without being in a rush,” Search Committee Chairman Vic Borden, pastor, Red Bridge Baptist Church, Kansas City, told The Pathway following the committee’s Sept. 15 meeting at the Baptist Building.

“Things have fallen in place very quickly to the degree that there will be a special called Executive Board meeting Oct. 13 to bring an update report to the Board.”

When pressed further for the purpose of the meeting, he responded that the committee “has worked to maintain confidentiality and must continue to do so until its work is complete.”

Later on the afternoon of Sept. 15 an email message, approved by interim executive director Jay Hughes and MBC President John Marshall, pastor, Second Baptist Church, Springfield, was sent to the Baptist Building staff.

“The purpose of the meeting is to consider a recommendation from the Executive Director Search Committee,” the staff email said. “There are no names for me to share with you and any names you may hear are rumor at this point. I am asking you to pray for the Executive Director Search Committee and the Executive Board. Also, please pray for our next executive director.”

The 11-member search committee was formed by the MBC Executive Board April 12.
