Executive Director search moves to next phase

July 20, 2011 By The Pathway

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) Executive Director Search Committee will hold its next meeting July 19 at the Baptist Building here.

The 11-member committee has met twice since they were formed by the Missouri Baptist Convention Executive Board April 12, once in May to get organized and a second meeting in June to adopt its policies and procedures. The July 19 meeting will mark the first time the committee has reviewed resumes and recommendations for the position. The cutoff for applications was June 30.

“We ask that the convention continue to pray for us and for God’s anointing on our July 19 meeting,” said MBC Executive Board Member and Committee Chairman Vic Borden, pastor, Red Bridge Baptist Church, Kansas City. “The period for receiving recommendations has passed. We have received all that we are going to consider at this time. Each recommendation will be given prayerful and professional consideration per instructions given by the MBC Executive Board.” Borden would not say how many recommendations were received.

“Prayerful fasting has permeated the time between our meetings,” he added.

All of the committee’s meetings are held in private. The Executive Board formed the committee following the January resignation of David Tolliver. Jay Hughes, the MBC’s controller, was named interim executive director by the Executive Board.

The committee was expected to bring a report to the Executive Board at its meeting July 11-12 at the Baptist Building.

Michael Whitehead

In a sweeping First Amendment decision issued March 31, the United States Supreme Court removed a virtual gag on free speech which the state of Colorado had imposed on Christian counselors when talking to minors about their sexuality. The Chiles decision has immediate implications beyond Colorado—including within the state of Missouri.

Kansas City’s Northland Church reproduces disciples through church planting

Richard Nations

Matt Marrs says he would rather be a pastor of a smaller church that has planted 20 churches than to be pastor of a church with 2,000 members. Northland Church, where Marrs serves, has sent out 10 church plants and church planters in the past two decades.
