LESTERVILLE—First Baptist Church here is celebrating the fact that eight people were baptized in the cold outdoors Sept. 26 on Baptism Sunday.
Despite the 59 degree temperature on a damp and chilly day, 130 people showed up for the big event along the East Fork of the Black River just north of Johnson Shut Ins. The church generally runs around 100 in Sunday worship.
“It was great,” said First Lesterville Pastor Mark Winn. “God brought the harvest.”
Last year’s Baptism Sunday featured six baptisms.
The day progressed through Sunday School, worship, baptism, and a time of lunch and celebration. It was exciting, Winn said, in the sense that when the event was first scheduled for August there were no baptismal candidates. God brought five in due time and then the final three on Baptism Sunday itself, Sept. 26.
First Lesterville calls itself “a traditional Southern Baptist Church serving the Lord with all that we are.”
