Southridge Baptist Church goes Saddle Ridge for VBS

August 3, 2010 By The Pathway

Staff Writer

JEFFERSON CITY – Children were greeted with a “howdy” as Southridge Baptist Church here transformed itself to Saddle Ridge Ranch for its 2010 Vacation Bible School (VBS).

The VBS theme from LifeWay focused this year on “Need answers? Ask God” based on James 1:5: “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.” The cowboy/dude ranch theme takes students through different rotations including Worship Rally Valley, Rec at Mustang Mountain, Crafts at Blazing Star Stables, Bible Study Bunkhouse, Missions at Firefly Cavern, snacks at Big Sky Grill and Music at Campfire Creek.

“When we have questions in life – big or small – we’re to look to God,” said Ronnie Phelps, Southridge’s VBS director. “Kids are looking all kinds of places these days.”

Southridge averaged around 70 students, which is typical for the church in this summertime activity.

“We’ve got kids coming dressed up as the theme, and I’m not sure we’ve had that in the past,” she said. “They’re having a great time with it.”

Phelps also praised the church participation at Southridge.

“This church really supports VBS,” she said. “We always have more volunteers than we can use. It’s a good problem to have.”
