JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) Worldview Conference will take place Sept. 27 here at Memorial Baptist Church.
Speakers include: Russell Moore, senior vice president for academic administration and dean of the School of Theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky.; Missouri Supreme Court Judge Zel Fischer, a member of First Baptist Church, Tarkio; Don Hinkle, editor of The Pathway; and Roger Moran, owner of Brooks Brothers Trailers in Troy and a former leader in the conservative resurgence in the MBC who now attends Maranatha Baptist Church, an Independent Baptist congregation in Troy.
The conference came about as a result of the work of the MBC Peace Committee, which presented its final report to the MBC Executive Board almost exactly one year ago. The strategy to achieve peace in Missouri involved nine Prayer Summits, four Biblical Reconciliation Seminars, and one Worldview Conference.
The speakers bring varied points of view to the conference, Tolliver said. Moore is an academic who also has a heart for parenting issues, particularly adoption. Fischer is “an outspoken Christian in the world of politics and law.” Hinkle is a Centurion who has written a number of worldview columns and editorials for The Pathway. And Moran, who is an evangelical Christian now and not a Missouri Baptist, is looking at us “from the outside looking in, to help us look at ourselves.”
MBC Executive Director David Tolliver said the worldview conference is important for several reasons.
“It completes the requirements of the Peace Committee initiative,” he said. “It does contribute, I think, to the healing that is ongoing in the Missouri Baptist Convention, and it will further the education of the State of Missouri in general and Missouri Baptists in particular regarding the world in which we live and minister.”
The conference is free and open to everyone. It will begin with a 9 a.m. address by Moore and will be followed by messages at 10 and 11 by Fischer and Moran, respectively.
After a noon lunch break (a free lunch will be offered to all those attending) the conference will resume with a second message from Moore followed by a panel discussion – moderated by Tolliver – involving Fischer, Moran and Hinkle. Hinkle will bring he conference’s closing message following the panel discussion.
Attendees must pre-register for the free conference and lunch and may do so online at www.mobaptist.org.
