Missourians prominent on annual meeting program SBC committees, boards

ORLANDO, Fla. – Missouri Baptists will be front and center as Southern Baptists gather here June 15-16 for the Southern Baptist Convention’s (SBC) annual meeting.

Four will be seen on stage as part of the program and proceedings. Bringing their usual reports to messengers will be SBC Registration Secretary Jim Wells, director of missions, Tri-county Baptist Association, Nixa; and Phil Roberts, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City. Jonathan Whitehead, Abundant Life Baptist Church, Lee’s Summit will serve as chairman of the Committee on Order of Business and Joe Ulveling, family ministries specialist for the Missouri Baptist Convention will offer the benediction at the close of the June 16 morning session.

There are five nominees from Missouri who have been selected by the 2010 SBC Committee on Nominations to serve on the boards of GuideStone Financial Resources, Southwestern and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminaries and the Committee on Order of Business. Nominees will serve if elected by the messengers to the annual meeting.

Guidestone Financial Resources, one nominee with term to expire in 2014 replacing a member ineligible for re-election: Peter G. Livingston, executive pastor, Concord Baptist Church, Jefferson City, replacing Kenneth R. (Ken) Howe of Lebanon.

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Beverly J. (Joy) Stephenson of St. Louis, nominated for a second term.

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Dwight Blankenship, pastor, Parkway Baptist Church, St. Louis, nominated for a term to expire in 2015 replacing Jay Scribner of Branson, who was ineligible for re-election; James F. Freeman, III, of Country Meadows Baptist Church, Lee’s Summit, nominated for a second term.

Committee on Order of Business, Andy Chambers, Pathway contributor and member of West County Community Church, Wildwood, nominated with term to expire in 2013.
