ORLANDO, Fla. – Seven Missourians are among the appointments to the Southern Baptist Convention’s (SBC) Committee on Committees, Credentials and Tellers Committees, SBC President Johnny Hunt, pastor of First Baptist Church of Woodstock, Ga., announced recently.
The Missouri appointments to the Committee on Committees are: Barry Atkins, Harmony Baptist Church, Rogersville, and Andy Chambers, West County Community Church, Wildwood.
The Committee on Committtees appointments are in accordance with SBC Bylaw 19 which requires that their names be released to Baptist Press no later than 45 days prior to the annual meeting. The Committee on Committees will assemble in Orlando, Fla., just prior to the SBC June 15-16 annual meeting to nominate members of the Committee on Nominations who, in turn, nominate trustees to serve on boards of the various entities of the SBC. SBC Bylaw 19 also provides that the Committee on Committees “shall nominate all special committees authorized during the sessions of the Convention not otherwise provided for.”
The Committee on Committees has 70 members, two from each of the 35 state or regional conventions qualified for representation on boards of SBC entities. Joel Southerland, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Dalton, Ga., has been designated to serve as committee chairman.
Hunt’s Missouri appointments to the SBC Credentials Committee include Greg Boll, First Baptist Church, Crane. His appointments to the Tellers Committee are: Dwain Carter, Harmony Baptist Church, Waynesville; Eric Eggers, First Baptist Church, Crystal City; James Walker, Hazelwood Baptist Church, Hazelwood; and Josh Hall, Selmore Baptist Church, Ozark.
