Organizational study group to be announced

December 22, 2009 By The Pathway

By Staff

JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) Executive Board was scheduled to meet Dec. 14-15 at the Baptist Building with organizational structuring on its mind.

MBC Executive Director David Tolliver was expected to release the names of his organizational study group. In challenging economic times, these Missouri Baptists will likely be asked to examine all aspects of MBC service for the purpose of determining how well MBC staffers are servicing the churches. Tolliver has made it clear that he wants an efficient staff in the years to come.

Another likely priority for this board meeting was to be the needs of Baptists in El Salvador. Tolliver went there on a mission trip in November and saw families whose homes were devastated by flooding caused by Hurricane Ida. Because many of these families are Baptists who are in partnership with Missouri Baptists, Tolliver now feels a sense of responsibility that Missouri Baptists ought to assist them in rebuilding their homes.

On Dec. 14, work groups met at 9 a.m. Committees then met at 10:30 a.m. followed by an Administrative Committee meeting at 1:30 p.m.

The actual board meeting began at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 15 in the Gold Room. Bruce McCoy, pastor, Canaan Baptist Church, St. Louis, now in his second year as chairman, presided.

The Pathway will have complete coverage of the Executive Board meeting in the next issue.
