First Bethany serves its community
BETHANY—The members of the First Baptist Church here are making Bethany their mission, as they spent the second full week of August cleaning up the community, including working on the Senior Center, helping at the food pantry and painting in the parks.
“We wanted to do something that is community focused,” said First Bethany Pastor Ned Nugent. “We are using our resources in a positive light.”
Despite soaring 100-degree temperatures and humidity you could cut with a butter knife, church members picked up trash in the streets throughout the community, cleaned at the Senior Center, pulled weeds and painted at the city parks, and volunteered at the food pantry.
“We are just here to be hands and feet for Christ this week,” Nugent said.
The mission is part of an effort by the church to become more community-minded.
“Reach, connect and serve. That is the mission statement of the church.”
