SBU senior chosen for scholarship

BOLIVAR—Meilani Williams, a Southwest Baptist University senior computer science and mathematics major from Leavenworth, Kan., was selected recently by the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computer Conference 2007 Scholarship Committee to be a 2007 scholarship recipient.

The scholarship covers the cost and travel arrangements for both the Tapia Conference and the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference, both to be held in Orlando, Fla.

Williams was selected by the committee from a field of over 275 applicants nationwide.

Her current plans include graduate study in computer science and mathematics.

Hannibal-LaGrange University

Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU), affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) since 1857, has formally requested a religious accommodation from the U.S. Department of Education from a Biden-era regulation, 34 CFR §668.14. Without timely action by the Department, the university intends to file a lawsuit seeking relief to safeguard its religious freedoms.
