Giving stays on same pace

JEFFERSON CITY—The last day of 2007 in Missouri Baptist Convention life is a reminder that giving through the Cooperative Program (CP) over the past 24 months has been basically flat.

Church services lost to ice storms in December will likely result in CP giving coming in between $16.2 and $16.3 million, according to MBC Controller Jay Hughes.

Giving to the Rheubin L. South Missouri Missions Offering (MMO) through Dec. 15 was about $691,000. Last year’s total offering was $733,800.

The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering through Dec. 15 stood at $3.1 million. Last year the offering was $3,245,000.

Cultivating wisdom in a post-Christian culture

Harrison Lang

As American Christians in the 21st century, we have already fought many battles over political and cultural issues in the first quarter of this century. These battles have borne real fruit for the cause of Christ and the common good—whether the overturning of Roe v. Wade or the ongoing protection of religious liberty. Contrary to the doom some people have predicted, our nation has seen significant progress. That said, Christians must still engage the public square with confidence and discernment in Christ.
