Missouri gets familiar with Cactus Canyon VBS theme

JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) is beginning its promotion of “Club VBS: Cactus Canyon,” a LifeWay theme for 2008 Vacation Bible School (VBS).

The theme is about a trail-blazing trip through the Wild West. Along the way it teaches children about the good news in John 3:16. The good news will be studied for our self, family, friends and world, according to Joyce Taylor, Club VBS conference leader for the Missouri state VBS team.

In Cactus Canyon, the verse that children learn as they saddle up is “For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”

Cactus Canyon resources include a new starter kit that will provide administrative, worship rally and leader guides for each of three age groups: 3-K, grades 1-3 and grades 4-6. With a shorter two-hour schedule, Club VBS is designed to adapt to multiple settings so it can be used during a traditional summer week, school breaks, mission trips or day camps among other times.

Taylor said there are at least 10 reasons why a Missouri Baptist church should choose Club VBS. Those reasons are: it is easy to use with a practical theme idea; good curriculum for mission trips; back yard Bible clubs; day camp or a Mom’s Day Out; a mid-week children’s Bible study; it is flexible and works with any size group; it represents a different theme and Bible content from other Baptist churches in your town; it is economical for all churches; it is available from Dec. 1 through Sept. 1 of 2008; your own traditional church VBS can be utilized.

The other LifeWay line for VBS is Outrigger Island. Check LifeWay.com/vbs for additional information and resources related to both VBS lines.
