Conference aims to shake Missouri for Jesus
JEFFERSON CITY – “Shake the Nation,” a conference featuring 10 speakers who aim to restore America’s foundation on Jesus, is coming to Concord Baptist Church here April 13-14.
“Knowing the truth will set people free,” said conference spokesman Greg Thompson. “The operative word in that is knowing. That knowledge comes from the Word of God.”
Thompson, who was fired in August of 2004 from his job as Humansville Schools Superintendent when he refused to take his Bible off his desk and take down a Ten Commandments plaque on his shelf, is one of the speakers. He will give a message at 11:30 a.m. April 14 on training up a child. Directly before that message will be a sermon by Rodney Albert, chairman of the Missouri Baptist Convention’s Christian Life Commission and pastor of Hallsville Baptist Church, on obeying God rather than man based on Acts 5:29.
“The Good Lord has put in my path several anointed men who have been willing to basically come on their own dime,” Thompson said. “They know the time is so urgent right now. They truly believe that this is no time for ceremony. We’re in a war, and the price of that war is our children.”
Concord Pastor Monte Shinkle is listed as part of the opening segment of the conference each day, starting at 6:45 p.m. April 13 and at 9:45 a.m. April 14. The program the first night features five different speaking segments running from 7 p.m. through 9:45 p.m. On April 14, there will be three speakers before lunch and six speakers after lunch until the conference ends at around 4 p.m. There is no keynote speaker.
“We ask each one every time that they make it totally about Him, that they step aside and give what knowledge and gift He’s given to them and never make it about themselves or any ulterior motive,” Thompson said.
Albert is the one name among the speakers that most Missouri Baptists would recognize. Thompson likes the Hallsville Baptist preacher because he is “uncompromising in the Word of God. That’s one element that we need so strongly.”
Albert’s capacity to rightly divide the Word of Truth as it would apply to various governmental and political decisions is coveted in a Shake the Nation setting.
“Rodney’s always been a warrior for God’s truth over man’s wisdom,” Thompson said.
Tickets are $10. For more information, call (417) 754-8774.
“The truth is going to be like a sword that divides,” Thompson said. “People will fall on man’s side or they’ll fall on God’s side. We hope to prepare families—parents and grandparents—to be better equipped to protect their children in the climate of the world that we’re living in right now, with so many forces coming against them.”
