Man with local ties graduates from MBTS

KANSAS CITY – Scott A. Carlson graduated Dec. 14, 2006 from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City. He received a doctor of ministry degree.

Carlson currently serves as senior pastor of Central Baptist Church in Owasso, Okla. He is the son of the late Bill and Berdina Walker Carlson. While attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, he received a master of divinity degree.

He and his wife, Sarah, currently reside in Collinsville, Okla.


Nashua Baptist calls Andrews as pastor

KANSAS CITY – Nashua Baptist Church has called Steven J. Andrews as pastor. Andrews is professor of Old Testament and biblical archaeology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Tammie, have four children and live in Liberty.


SBU Chorale presents free spring concert

BOLIVAR – The public is invited to attend a free concert presented by the Chorale of Southwest Baptist University at 7:30 p.m. March 29 in Pike Auditorium on campus. A reception for the audience will be held backstage after the performance.

The Chorale is a 42-voice selectively auditioned mixed choir whose repertoire spans over 500 years of music history. The choir has performed extensively throughout the country and the world. This past year, the ensemble performed throughout southern Germany, appearing in such notable venues as the Ulm Cathedral, St. Anna in Augsburg, and the Dachau concentration camp. The Chorale also performed at last year’s Missouri Music Educators state conference.


SBU will benefit from Monsanto grant

BOLIVAR—Southwest Baptist University will benefit from the Monsanto Fund’s recent grant of $30,000 to the Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF).

The grant will underwrite Monsanto Fund Science & Math Teacher scholarships at the 15 MCF member schools. These scholarships will be awarded by the member schools on the basis of financial need.

The MCF was formed in 1952.


First Fayette calls Stephenson as pastor

FAYETTE – David Stephenson has been called as the new pastor of First Baptist Church, Fayette. He and his wife, Rhonda, have three grown children.


Bellefontaine Baptist licenses Chestnut

ST. LOUIS – Bellefontaine Baptist Church recently licensed Adam Chestnut to the Gospel ministry. Chestnut is currently serving as a ministry intern at Bellefontaine.

In a sweeping First Amendment decision issued March 31, the United States Supreme Court removed a virtual gag on free speech which the state of Colorado had imposed on Christian counselors when talking to minors about their sexuality. The Chiles decision has immediate implications beyond Colorado—including within the state of Missouri.

Kansas City’s Northland Church reproduces disciples through church planting

Matt Marrs says he would rather be a pastor of a smaller church that has planted 20 churches than to be pastor of a church with 2,000 members. Northland Church, where Marrs serves, has sent out 10 church plants and church planters in the past two decades.
