Blackaby, Lowry headline bi-vo ministry conference

By Brian Koonce
Staff writer

MARION, Ill. – Missouri’s bi-vocational pastors are invited join with fellow pastors from four other states and Henry Blackaby and Charles Lowery to converge on Marion, Ill., to take part in the Mid-Continent Bi-vocational Celebration March 23-24.

The conference is hosted by the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) in association with Baptist conventions in Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee. The event will take place at Third Baptist Church, Marion.

“I attended several years ago and it is a first class event,” said MBC Ministerial Services Specialist George Roach. “It is a tremendous time for worship, fellowship and gaining insight.”

The theme is “Walking with God in a Bi-vocational Ministry” and will feature presentations from each state, including Missouri Baptist bi-vocational pastors.

The keynote speakers are Lowery and Blackaby. Lowery is a well-known speaker and psychologist and founder of the Lowery Institute for Excellence. Blackaby is best known as the author of the “Experiencing God” series.

Registration is only $5 thanks to Cooperative Program subsidies and all meals during the conference are provided. Participants are responsible for transportation and lodging.

For more information or to register call 1-800-736-6227 ext. 202 or go to www.mobaptist.org/bi-vopastors.

Cultivating wisdom in a post-Christian culture

Harrison Lang

As American Christians in the 21st century, we have already fought many battles over political and cultural issues in the first quarter of this century. These battles have borne real fruit for the cause of Christ and the common good—whether the overturning of Roe v. Wade or the ongoing protection of religious liberty. Contrary to the doom some people have predicted, our nation has seen significant progress. That said, Christians must still engage the public square with confidence and discernment in Christ.
