First La Plata enjoys mission trip to Colorado

By Staff

LA PLATA – First Baptist Church, La Plata, recently completed a successful mission trip to Naturita, Colo., with a group of 23 short-term missionaries participating in the Missouri Baptist/Colorado Baptist partnership.

Vacation Bible School began July 31 at Trinity Baptist Church, located in a community of 735 people located southwest of Grand Junction. A total of 26 students participated in the VBS with two children accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The La Plata missionaries also helped give the local medical clinic a new look. The medical clinic, which offers 24-hour services to the rural area, now has a fresh coat of cream-colored paint covering the old dark brown stained wood siding.

Michael Stoker, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, said before the arrival of the mission team a fire broke out in the baptistery of the church. Blessedly, there is a lot of water in a baptistery, so the fire was put out.

The mission team returned home with a sense of awe in accordance with Jeremiah 33:3, which says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

When you give to your church, you provide foster homes for children, rescue women from human trafficking, support survivors of disasters, start new churches, advance Christian education, offer compassionate care to the elderly, keep roughly 9,000 full-time missionaries on the field, train the next generation of Southern Baptist leaders … and that’s just for starters.
