MBC offering 99-cent songs via its worship Web site

By Brian Koonce
Staff Writer

JEFFERSON CITY – In an age when more and more people are downloading music from the Internet, finding that perfect song is just a click away. And now, the Missouri Baptist Convention is offering 99-cent songs for download from its worship website, www.mobaptist.org/worship, and anyone – including churches – can join in. Entire albums are available as well.

“This is just one part of trying to get as many resources on our website as possible,” John Francis, worship specialist for the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC), said. “It’s an inexpensive way for us to reach the whole state and work smart.”

The site has thousands of tracks available in every genre from bluegrass, rap and traditional hymns to jazz, Latin and Reggae.

“You can also download performance tracks,” he said. Because of the royalties attached to performance tracks, they cost $9.99 each.

Francis said he hopes this is just the beginning of the interactivity of the MBC worship Web site. A monthly podcast is in the works and the office already has an e-mail newsletter available.

The MBC receives a small portion from the price of each download, but Francis said profit is not a reason for the service.

“It’s purely a resource,” he said.

Preaching ministry ‘an honor and privilege,’ Whitney says

Aiden Trimble

Brother Frank Whitney stood up, took a deep breath, and walked toward the pulpit. Bible in hand, he double-checked his notes for the Sunday evening sermon. Tonight’s topic: faith the size of a mustard seed. The crowd wasn’t any larger than usual; about 30 people. It was just another Sunday evening service, except for one detail: The preacher, Brother Whitney, was 12 years old.
