MMO video in the mail

Valuable tool for promoting state mission work

By Brian Koonce
Staff Writer

JEFFERSON CITY – Promotional videos for the Rheubin L. South Missouri Missions Offering (MMO) are in the mail and David Tolliver wants every pastor, WMU president and director of missions to have the chance to use them.

As associate executive director for the Cooperative Program and stewardship for the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC), Tolliver is spearheading the statewide effort to raise money for Missouri ministries.

“The video contains real life stories of MMO dollars at work,” Tolliver said. “We could never focus on all the ministries funded by MMO dollars, but we’ve presented nine different ministries MBC churches have helped support.”

Those nine are church planting, the Christian Life Commission, evangelism, student ministries, disaster relief in Missouri and nationwide, the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home and the Small Church Assistance Fund and associational ministries.

Tolliver said he hopes the nine-segment video will be used by churches – or WMUs or RAs and GAs – in August and September to emphasize state missions. It can be viewed by ministry in three-minute clips or as a 25-minute whole.

This marks the first time the promotional video has been produced in-house by the MBC. Tolliver said the convention saved thousands of dollars by having Chris Rhodes, media technician for the MBC, produce and edit the video.

“Without making any compromises in quality, we have a home-grown video for churches to use,” he said. “You’ll be seeing Missouri Baptists talking to Missouri Baptists.”

Also for the first time, the video is being sent out as a DVD only. Toliver said that if a church does not have a DVD player, they can request a VHS tape by calling the MBC at 1-800-736-6227.
