Committee on Convention Committees

JEFFERSON CITY – Ministers and lay people have been appointed to serve on the 2006 Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) Committee on Convention Committees by MBC President Ralph Sawyer, pastor, First Baptist Church, Wentzville. One member is from each of Missouri’s eight regions.

Jeff Purvis, pastor, Westport Church, St. Louis (East Central Region) was named chairman of the committee. Other ministers serving on the committee are: Paul Pope, Sonrise Church, Bonne Terre (Southeast Region); Jerry Yarnall, First Baptist Church, Exeter (Southwest Region); Larry Atkins, First Baptist Church, Buckhorn (South Central Region); and Lyn Heying, New Oakland (Northeast Region).

Lay people serving on the committee are Lisa Albert, Hallsville Baptist Church (Central Region); Harvey Parker, First Baptist Church, St. Joseph (Northwest Region); and Raymond Enyeart, Blue Springs (West Central Region).

The Committee on Convention Committees is responsible for nominating members to the following MBC standing committees: Committee on Convention Preacher – to serve and report in 2006; two members each for the Committee on Order of Business and the Committee on Continuing Review, terms expiring 2009 – to begin serving following the 2006 convention; Committee on Resolutions and Committee on Enrollment – to serve in 2007; Credentials Committee; and Committee on Local Arrangements – to serve in 2008 in Osage Beach.

Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU), affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) since 1857, has formally requested a religious accommodation from the U.S. Department of Education from a Biden-era regulation, 34 CFR §668.14. Without timely action by the Department, the university intends to file a lawsuit seeking relief to safeguard its religious freedoms.
