Please support the Sept. 10 Right to Life Rally

From My Heart to Yours

Please support the Sept. 10 Right to Life Rally

August 26, 2003

Years ago, when I was working in St Louis developing new stores and real estate for the National Supermarket chain, I was amazed at the power one letter from a homemaker  could have.  The marketing direction of a company with billions of dollars in sales could be influenced by as few as five letters!  Being a relative newcomer to the world of retail trade, I asked the marketing executives about why so few exerted such influence on their decisions.

These captains of industry took letters very seriously, because in their words, “One homemaker, taking the time to write to us represents 1,000 other customers who just didn’t take the time to write.  Instead, they just quietly leave us for another retailer.”

In similar fashion, YOU dear brother and sister in Christ, can have tremendous influence on our nation, our culture and your neighbors.  There is an opportunity for Christians to unite in a message to our lawmakers on the issue of the sanctity of life — ALL life — unborn, born, young, old and infirm.

On our state Capitol’s steps Sept. 10, a Rally for Life will be held from noon-1 pm.  In the simple act of your presence, you can exert influence on the moral values of our state.  We would encourage you to follow-up your participation with a personal visit to your state legislators’ offices, registering with them your support for the sanctity of life. If you cannot come to the Capitol  for the rally — no problem.  But please take a moment to pray for the rally and then telephone your legislators on this day, voicing  your support.  Your influence will still be felt.

The latest data we have, from 2001, shows us that the number of abortions has dropped again.  The power of influence and knowledge is work, but it is obviously paying off.  For this we are grateful, but in 2001, there were still 12,266 known Missouri children cut to pieces in their mother’s womb and extracted to the garbage pail.  This is a horrible sin wherein our state has the blood of its own children on its hands.  We are guilty of sacrificing our children to the gods of sexual promiscuity, convenience and to the god of Mammon (money).  Pray to end this slaughter.  Work to end it.  Join us in the Rally for Life at the state Capitol building.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you … .”  (Jer. 1:5)

This rally’s intended purpose is to support our pro-life legislators in their goal of an override of Gov. Bob Holden’s veto of the Women’s Right to Know Act – HB 156.  This law has the potential to cut abortions in Missouri by up to one-half (6,000).  How?  This law would require that women be fully informed about the developmental stages of their baby, the medical aspects of abortion and it would require that some time be given to a woman to reflect on these things before she submits to an abortion procedure.

We have been asked to wear something “red.”  Apply your influence by your presence, writing, visiting your legislators and until then — PRAY!

“I exhort, therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”  (1 Tim. 2:1-4)

Do not underestimate the powerful influence of a life. Chuck Swindoll has pointed out the following in his book, The Tale of the Tardy Oxcart and 1,501 Other Stories:

In 1645, one vote gave Oliver Cromwell control of England.

In 1649, one vote caused Charles I of England to be executed.

In 1845, one vote brought Texas into the Union.

In 1868, one vote saved President Andrew Johnson from impeachment.

In 1875, one vote changed France from a monarchy into a republic.

In 1876, one vote gave Rutherford B. Hayes the United States presidency.

In 1923, one vote gave Adolf Hitler control of the Nazi party.
