Missouri RA Congress to focus on disaster relief

By Bob Baysinger
Managing Editor

JEFFERSON CITY – Royal Ambassadors attending the annual RA Congress April 9-10 at Sedalia will be given opportunities to get involved in missions, according to Danny Decker, the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) men’s specialist.

Decker said each RA chapter is invited to participate in a project to benefit Missouri Disaster Relief, the MBC agency that provides assistance to Missouri Baptists who have been affected by a natural disaster.

“We will be collecting No. 10 cans of green beans, corn, peaches, fruit cocktail and pudding," Decker said. “The Red Cross and public health departments require that the food be in the large cans."

Decker said the Disaster Relief Unit will participate in the missions fair on Good Friday (April 9) at the RA Congress. Donated items can be left at the Disaster Relief table.

Other activities during the weekend, Decker said, will include:

• A message by Ron Ratliff, the Cowboy preacher from 10th  Street Baptist Church , Trenton ;

• Scott Brawner, MBC youth evangelism specialist, rappelling from the roof of a building on the Missouri State Fairgrounds; and

• The Friday night RA Congress offering.

“The offering along with the Missions Run and World Walk donations will be sent to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home," Decker said.

“The home cares for boys and girls who have been abused, neglected and/or abandoned by their families. Many of these children have never attended church or heard about the love of Jesus Christ before coming to the Children’s Home.

“The money collected at the RA Congress will help provide food, clothing, Christian workers and medical care for these children."

Supreme Court ruling removes gag on Colorado Christian counselor, raises questions about Kansas City-area restrictions

Michael Whitehead

In a sweeping First Amendment decision issued March 31, the United States Supreme Court removed a virtual gag on free speech which the state of Colorado had imposed on Christian counselors when talking to minors about their sexuality. The Chiles decision has immediate implications beyond Colorado—including within the state of Missouri.

Kansas City’s Northland Church reproduces disciples through church planting

Richard Nations

Matt Marrs says he would rather be a pastor of a smaller church that has planted 20 churches than to be pastor of a church with 2,000 members. Northland Church, where Marrs serves, has sent out 10 church plants and church planters in the past two decades.
