MBC challenges Missouri churches to produce 2,000 prayer partners

JEFFERSON CITY – Pray for Missouri.

"We have 2.75 million lost people," said Danny Decker, prayer coordinator for the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC).

The MBC needs 2,000 prayer partners by Dec. 31 who will work to see spiritual awakening, spiritual renewal, revival and unity in the "Show Me" state.

Decker wants folks to show him.

"There’s a stirring in my spirit that we need to be prayer warriors," Decker said. "We need to be on our knees before God."

A prayer partner will pray at least once a week, Decker said. Participants may e-mail the MBC at prayerpartners@mobaptist.org or call (573) 636-0400 (ext. 630 or 631).

Decker leads by example with the type of unction that the late pastor, author and prayer warrior E.M. Bounds said, "pervades and convicts the conscience and breaks the heart." Decker’s heart is broken for our state.

"The only way we do ministry in the strength and power of our Lord is through prayer," Decker said. "Prayer is not some kind of incantation process that brings God to our point of view. Prayer is a relationship, a child talking to a loving, heavenly Father."

The MBC is also challenging Missouri Baptist churches to produce 5,000 prayer warriors by Dec. 31, 2004.

"There’s something about making that commitment that charges us," Decker said.
