Pro-life rally Sept. 10 at State Capitol

August 26, 2003

JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Baptists will join other Christians from around the state in converging on the state Capitol Sept. 10 to urge lawmakers to override Gov. Bob Holden’s veto of a bill requiring that women meet with a doctor to discuss their medical condition and have at least 24 hours to reflect on what she learns before having an abortion. The bill was approved by both the Missouri House and Senate this spring, but was vetoed by Holden July 9.

The rally will begin at noon and will last until the votes are cast. Organizers are asking pro-life supporters to fill the Capitol, the lawn and the galleries. Attendees wanting to sit in the House or Senate Gallery must arrive early in order to get a seat. Everyone is being asked to wear something red to show their support for the sanctity of life. Music, prayer, speakers and the legislative debate on the override will be piped through speakers throughout the Capitol grounds. Rally day registration booths will be set up on the east and west Capitol steps. Missouri Right to Life has also reserved all space in the third floor Capitol rotunda area for pro-life booths.

Amid incivility, reaffirm liberty of conscience

Benjamin Hawkins

The assassination last month of Charlie Kirk brought many Americans face-to-face with a gruesome reality encountered all too often across the globe: namely, that a man might be killed simply for expressing what he believes to be true. In this age of growing incivility, may we reaffirm the foundations for liberty of conscience.
