LEBANON – A church that three years ago was minutes away from closing its doors is now experiencing revitalization. In the fall of 2014, Competition Baptist Church, a rural church located about 20 miles southeast of Lebanon, had dwindled to six congregants who didn’t see a way forward. Yet God used timely wisdom and a willing young pastor to bring new life to the 120-year-old church. Steven Strauch, DOM for the Laclede Baptist Association, described the church’s dilemma. After the … [Read more...]

Peace Valley’s doors open to those ‘weary, burdened’
ST. ROBERT – Kenneth and Vickie Campbell searched for 30 years for the right parcel of land on the river outside of Rolla. 30 years of searching, but nothing felt right. Nothing until, on a whim, Kenneth picked up a local ad sheet and saw an ad for 58 acres five miles from I-44. “This is it,” Vickie remembers Kenneth saying as they walked up the entrance to the property that cold January morning. “What do you want to do with it?” was his next question. The couple, long-time members of … [Read more...]

Cornerstone Baptist makes Jesus famous in Sedalia
SEDALIA – They just wanted to see God do something big. And according to Carol Payne, charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church here, God did not disappoint. Fifteen years ago Darrell and Carol Payne, along with a core group of church visionaries, felt God leading them to church planting. In 2002 the west side of Sedalia was starting to thrive and there was no evangelical presence in the area. “We started in a barn and we’ve seen some amazing miracles along the way,” said Payne. … [Read more...]

That motto extends to this summer’s DR interns, even when disasters seem to be few and far between. Five college students are serving through the middle of August as disaster relief interns, and in a twist from recent years, all of them are young women. Living in what can be charitably called spartan conditions for the summer and on call 24-7, the quintet trained in all … [Read more...]

Annual Church Profile collection begins, helps churches
JEFFERSON CITY – It’s that time of year again. Not just back-to-school preparations, or the hope of one final getaway from the dog days of summer. No, it’s that time of year when every Missouri Baptist church or mission is asked to complete an Annual Church Profile (ACP). ACP is a statistical survey that tracks trends in baptisms, church membership, worship attendance, and so much more.
