BRIDGETON – Trustees met via videoconference and in person – spread out across the MBCH’s chapel – for their board meeting July 28. Though they noted many challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, bright spots emerged as well. Trustees celebrated 42 permanencies in the second quarter, and 80 in 2020 thus far. They lamented a recent United Supreme Court ruling that repealed restrictions on abortion, but celebrated other rulings that affirmed religious ministries like MBCH can hire … [Read more...]

According to Bob Bickford, associate director of replant for the North American Mission Board, the summit “will introduce different methods and models of replanting to those interested in knowing more about which options are best for their congregations.” “Replanting and Revitalization is not a one size fits all approach,” he said. “Each church is … [Read more...]

When Inmates Become Missionaries Soon, inmates in the Jefferson City Correctional … [Read more...]
Campus ministries face obstacles connecting with incoming students due to COVID-19
KANSAS CITY – The beginning of the fall semester is the busiest time for college ministries. And for good reason – the first few days on campus have a profound determining effect on the trajectory of students’ college years. “Students typically find their college friends within the first 72 hours of being on campus,” says Travis Hamm, MBCollegiate Strategist. “It’s critically important that our ministries engage those students in that window of time.” The stakes are unequivocally high. … [Read more...]

MBCollegiate ministries challenge students to take initiative and share their faith
JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Baptist Convention’s collegiate ministries – called MBCollegiate – have a threefold goal: make disciples, pursue missions, and develop leaders. Across the state, students are stepping up and taking initiative in their faith and on their campuses – even if from a distance. Levi … [Read more...]
WMU’s prayer, service the backbone of the Missouri State BSU ministry
SPRINGFIELD – If it weren’t for the WMU, the BSU ministry at Missouri State University might not even exist. “I don’t think BSU would be around without them getting their churches to rally around,” says Campus Missionary Chris Wilson, who has led the BSU at his alma mater since 2010. “When I was a student at MSU in the 90’s, they were there, the same ladies,” Wilson says. “They’ve provided that support for a long time.” The integral role of Baptist women in the BSU goes right back to its … [Read more...]
‘Unlimited options’ – VBS plans allow churches to reach kids amid pandemic
BALLWIN – It may look different than it has in years past, but there’s no excuse for canceling Vacation Bible School this summer. That’s the word from Christy Nance, the VBS coordinator for the Missouri Baptist Convention. “Churches shouldn’t say, ‘Oh no! We can’t do VBS this year,’ she said. “We need to ask, ‘Which VBS is best for our situation?’ There are so many ways to be safe.” Depending on a church’s location, size, schedule, volunteer pool and leadership, the best fit may be … [Read more...]
