Missouri DR supports relief efforts in Haiti
LES CAYES, Haiti – Missouri Baptists are responding after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake killed more than 2,000 people in Haiti, Aug. 14, leaving roughly 30,000 families homeless. Tropical Storm Grace hit the nation only two days after the earthquake, making it difficult for supplies and support to reach survivors and intensifying needs in the region. SEDALIA – Russ Slocum needed to prepare some little colorful gospel bead bracelets to give to kids at the Missouri state fair Baptist tent exhibit. He enlisted the help of the youth group in his church at First Baptist, Otterville, where he is pastor. Missouri’s oldest associational leader dies at 95
BUFFALO, Mo. (BP) – Russell Adams, associational missions strategist for the Dallas County Association of Southern Baptists died, Aug. 21. He was 95, and until earlier this month, he was still serving in his role leading the association. The association has 13 churches, many of them small. Adams helped Elkland Baptist Church with a Wednesday evening Bible study. HLGU campus damaged by wind, rain
HANNIBAL – Days before Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU) opened for new students and fall semester classes, a nasty windstorm and accompanying rain damaged the campus. The main damage from the late afternoon storm, Aug. 12, was to the student center in the middle of the campus, where a large section of the roof was stripped off and thrown to the ground.
