By Max Power and Myriah Snyder SENEGAL, West Africa (IMB) – When International Mission Board missionary Moses knew that God was calling him to go make disciples on islands near Senegal, his knee-jerk response was no. His hesitance had nothing to do with disobedience or uncertainty about the islanders. It wasn’t about the persecution believers faced in these areas. The issue was that Moses couldn’t swim. Island ministry had to be off the table, for his own safety. Moses wasn’t … [Read more...]

One pastor’s plan for cooperative ministry
When the search committee for FBC Mayfield contacted me in December of 2010, one of my first requests was for a copy of the church budget. I wanted to see what the church members prioritized and what they valued. I wanted to evaluate how much was budgeted for internal matters, such as fellowships, versus how much was budgeted for evangelism and missions. I believe you can tell a lot about a church by looking at its budget. FBC Mayfield has a long history of faithfulness. It’s where I was … [Read more...]

Street evangelism works in East Asian megacity
EAST ASIA – “Street evangelism just doesn’t work here.” That’s what Markus Feirer was told by members of the church he was training in evangelism. The International Mission Board missionary didn’t believe the church members were right. Walking up and down the streets of the East Asian megacity, people were everywhere, yet they were so disconnected. Looking down at their phones while they boarded buses and metros. AirPods in ear as they crossed the street. No one stopping — all laser … [Read more...]
MODR assists in the ultimate treasure hunt in Maui
LAHAINA, Maui – When Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief teams deploy to a disaster, it’s all about providing help, hope and healing. In most cases, it means helping families prepare to recover by cutting trees off of buildings or cleaning up after a flood so they can get on with their lives. Unfortunately, the situation is much different after a fire. “In that situation, we are helping a family grieve the loss of everything they own, often including their home,” related Richard Brummitt, … [Read more...]

IMB missionary: ‘God is working’ in Ukraine
by Michael Domke EDITOR'S NOTE: Michael Domke has served in Ukraine for 15 years with the IMB. (Sue Sprenkle contributed to this article.) In times of great need or despair, we’ve seen firsthand what the world’s greatest problem is, and it’s not war or hunger. It’s spiritual lostness. I recently watched people line up outside a church as air raid sirens sounded in Ukraine. The church was not a bomb shelter. They weren’t distributing food. It wasn’t even a Sunday. People stood in line, … [Read more...]

Missouri Baptist family launches coffee company to help trafficking victims
MARSHALL – It is not uncommon for viewers to leave a movie with strong emotions. In fact, most movies are crafted to elicit an emotional response. But rarely is the intended response anger. This summer, after seeing “Sound of Freedom” in theaters, one Missouri Baptist pastor went home angry. David Slusher, who pastors Gill Memorial Baptist Church in Marshall, Mo., recalls being deeply affected by the film, which exposes the dark reality of human sex trafficking – a plight which goes … [Read more...]
