‘Whoever the Son sets free is free indeed’: Missouri Baptist evangelist discovers strength to forgive mother’s murderer
BRANSON – To say that chaplain and evangelist John Ray McBride has had a tough life would be an understatement. To say he’s recovered well through God’s grace would be also. At five years old McBride saw his mother murdered in California. “From five I was thrown about to different aunts and uncles,” McBride says, “and eventually to a stepmother that raised me until I was 16. At 16 years old my stepmother kicked me out. I was sitting on the curb with a bag of clothes.” “So, I got a job … [Read more...]
Missionary returns to field a third time to finish task
'My heart was still here. I didn’t feel like the job was done.' THAILAND (IMB) – As a 22-year-old Journeyman, Jeri Whitfield saw long-term missionaries commit their lives to God and the people they served. That was her model for missions — a missionary presence that creates gospel access and transforms lives. It’s still her desire today, 40 years later. It’s also why she’s returned to serve in Thailand through the International Mission Board three times. The first time she left, … [Read more...]

Comprehensive care, strategies
James, the first-century pastor of the embryonic church in Jerusalem, was given the task of instructing the diaspora with truth that honors God. James doesn’t pull any punches in his inspired writing to the churches scattered all over West Asia and the Middle East. Obviously, he knew that churches without clarity of truth tend to isolate themselves and drift into all kinds of aberrant behavior fueled by the flesh of humanity. As a result, they have the potential to discredit the Lord Jesus. … [Read more...]

ARNOLD – Adam Cruse, senior associate pastor at First Baptist Church here, says “one of the greatest ways to disciple people is to get them on an airplane.” “We have found that there’s a huge difference in people when they return from being on (a mission trip). Their faith grows by leaps and bounds and it impacts how they live and serve long term.” He says that growth then helps drive Christians “to see people come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and see strong, … [Read more...]

More than half of the world’s current population has little chance of ever hearing the good news that Jesus saves all those who place their trust in Him. Late last year, International Mission Board President Paul Chitwood reminded Southern Baptists of this heartbreaking reality. “More lost people will die today and enter hell,” he wrote, “than on any day in human history.” The exact figure numbers in the hundreds of thousands – every day.
