This is the last in a series of columns about same-sex attraction, adapted from the new MBC resource, “What Every Christian Should Know About Same-Sex Attraction,” available in print at mobaptist.org/apologetics and in Kindle format at Amazon.com. A few years ago I joined leaders of a Christian non-profit organization in a meeting with executives of a Tennessee TV station. They were preparing to launch a new program catering to the LGBT community. We asked them to reconsider. Among the TV … [Read more...]
Jason Allen: Pastor, guard your heart
Discouragement is not an emotion with which I am very familiar, but over the past several weeks I have felt it acutely. My sadness has been induced by the steady drip of ministerial sex scandals and the destruction they have wrought. In fact, I have found myself not wanting to check social media, dreading to learn about the next scandal. Most prominently, the Ashley Madison expose has shaken church after church, ministry after ministry, and family after family. And, as Russell Moore has … [Read more...]

Views on divorce divide Americans
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Pastors believe not all divorces are created equal, but for many Americans any reason is as good as another according to new research from Nashville-based LifeWay Research. “Pastors make a distinction about the rightness of a divorce based on the reasons behind it,” says Scott McConnell, LifeWay Research vice president. “They want to account for the parts of Scripture that speak of possible rationales.” However, Americans view virtually all reasons for ending a marriage … [Read more...]
Some of you were like this
This is the seventh in a series of columns about same-sex attraction, adapted from the new MBC resource, “What Every Christian Should Know About Same-Sex Attraction,” available in print at mobaptist.org/apologetics and in Kindle format at Amazon.com. Six passages of Scripture speak directly to the issue of same-sex conduct. This column offers a brief survey of two New Testament texts: 1 Cor. 6:9-11 and 1 Tim. 1:9-11. These passages address moral issues facing the congregation at Corinth … [Read more...]
Missouri voters overwhelmingly support freedom of religion
JEFFERSON CITY – Missourians are overwhelmingly in support of protecting religious freedom, according to a new statewide poll commissioned by Missouri Alliance for Freedom. When asked should the government be able to force pastors to perform same-sex weddings if same-sex marriage violates the clergy’s religious beliefs and the teachings of the church, 78 percent answered “no.” Only 15 percent responded “yes.” When asked should churches or other religious property such as schools be forced … [Read more...]
Abedini prayer vigils set globally 9/26
NASHVILLE (BP) – The wife of imprisoned American pastor Saeed Abedini is on a 21-day “Daniel” fast and is organizing prayer vigils internationally Sept. 26, the third anniversary of her husband’s imprisonment in Iran for his Christian faith. Naghmeh Abedini, in asking Christians to pray for her husband and the persecuted church, also is promoting a letter-writing campaign to ask United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to advocate for Abedini’s release when Iranian President Hassan … [Read more...]
Missouri battle brews over religious freedom
Whether or not we think Kim Davis is the perfect citizen to serve as the poster child for the defense of religious liberty in America, in my view, became irrelevant when an unelected federal judge threw her in jail like a common criminal. Adding to the shock was an ABC News/Washington Post poll that claimed 63 percent of Americans thought she should issue the marriage license to same-sex couples – if it violated her conscience and commitment to obey God. If Americans really feel that way, … [Read more...]
Paul’s case against same-sex conduct
Six passages of Scripture speak directly to the issue of same-sex conduct. This column offers a brief survey of Rom. 1:26-27: “This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual intercourse for what is unnatural. The males in the same way also left natural sexual intercourse with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty … [Read more...]

LOUIS (Life News) – State legislators in Missouri moved ahead this week with their investigation into the scandal of the Planned Parenthood abortion business selling the body parts from aborted babies. University of Missouri ends contracts with Planned Parenthood thanks to MO Lawmakers
JEFFERSON CITY (LifeNews.com) – Missouri lawmakers have been successful in getting the University of Missouri to begin to end its 26-year relationship with the Planned Parenthood abortion business, where it taught medical students how to kill babies in abortions. Senator Kurt Schaefer used his position as the chair of the Appropriations Committee to get the University of Missouri to end their contracts with Planned Parenthood. U of Missouri focus of abortion probe
University of Missouri Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin – like everyone – would do well to obey James 5:12, particularly the part, “but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.” In other words, just tell the truth. It is disturbing to see a leader do otherwise, especially when it pertains to the babies’ lives and Missouri taxpayers. During Loftin’s recent appearance before the Missouri Senate Interim Committee on the Sanctity of Life, which is … [Read more...]
