“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” – Romans 8:28 Following the last election, I saw a picture in a report on TV of a young lady who clearly had genuine fear in her eyes. She was afraid because her chosen candidate had not won. I felt sorry for her because she clearly did not know how to deal with her disappointment in not having her candidate win the election. Are we raising children who … [Read more...]
Despite ice storm, Gala draws crowd to combat human trafficking
EDITOR’S NOTE: This article was first printed in the Missions & Ministry Newsletter of the Blue River-Kansas City Baptist Association. It is reprinted here with permission. KANSAS CITY – The weathermen were predicting the largest ice storm in Kansas City in a decade. The grocery store shelves were bare; the roads unusually quiet as darkness settled over the city. But darkness cannot overcome the light. Despite the hazardous conditions predicted to begin late Saturday evening, Jan. 14, … [Read more...]

ST. ROBERT – Pastors in Missouri have a new tool at their disposal as they try to stay abreast of a changing culture and legal landscape. The non-denominational American Pastors Network has a new arm in Missouri. Keith Carnahan, pastor of Maranatha Baptist Church in St. Robert is the president of the Missouri Pastors Network, and Monte Shinkle, pastor of Concord Baptist Church in Jefferson City, is the vice president. The networks’ mission is to identify, encourage, equip, educate and … [Read more...]
Missouri State settles suit with Christian student
SPRINGFIELD (WNS) – Missouri State University (MSU) says it will pay $25,000 to a former student who was expelled for his views on homosexuality. The agreement settles a lawsuit filed last April by Andrew Cash, a former MSU graduate student who alleges the university kicked him out of the master’s in counseling program because he expressed a religious objection to counseling same-sex couples. The settlement was finalized in December but became public this week when the Springfield … [Read more...]
Trump signs order defunding International Planned Parenthood, foreign abortions
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump Jan. 23 signed an executive order to defund International Planned Parenthood. Most pro-life Americans are anxiously awaiting Congress to pass a bill to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. While that defunding legislation concerns the domestic-based Planned Parenthood abortion corporation, President Trump has the ability to put in place an executive order that would revoke funding for its International affiliate. When pro-abortion former … [Read more...]
Fake news and false prophets
News flash: Ireland is now accepting Trump refugees from the U.S. From our Washington bureau: Hillary Clinton sold weapons to ISIS while secretary of state. And in sports: The Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Fake news is everywhere. (Okay, that last story might be true.) And one of the biggest breaking stories of 2016 was the widespread impact of verifiably false news hosted on bogus websites and amplified through social media. “Yellow journalism” has long been with us – the use of … [Read more...]
Tennessee pastor resigns as IMB trustee over Mosque
MORRISTOWN — A Tennessee Baptist pastor has resigned as a trustee of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board in response to an action taken by IMB leadership last summer. He had another year to serve on his present term. Dean Haun, pastor of First Baptist Church, Morristown, told the Baptist and Reflector his resignation was in response to the IMB’s May 2016 decision to sign an amicus brief in support of a mosque to be built in New Jersey. “I love our IMB … [Read more...]
Missouri joins fray in major Supreme Court case
JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri has joined 22 other states in filing a friend-of-the-court brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower-court ruling that a federal anti-discrimination law regarding sex covers gender identity. Also joining in the brief were several faith organizations, including the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). The high court’s ruling could have a profound impact on churches, public schools and religious … [Read more...]
Leaders candidly affirm power of prayer
There has been little that former Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and I have agreed on when it comes to politics. He has led a party that continues to support abortion on demand, booed God at their national convention and undermined the will of the voters in 30-plus states – including Missouri – as the Democrats supported same-sex “marriage” by judicial fiat. However, we agree on one important issue: the power prayer. It was a blessing to be among the more than 600 people attending Nixon’s final … [Read more...]
Five things a church can do to halt the holocaust
Science has long since outstripped the infamous Roe v. Wade decision of 1973. On Oct. 11, 2016, Oxford University released a study indicating that a baby’s heart begins to beat around the 16th day after conception. By using lab mice, they confirmed that the hearts of baby mice start to beat in 7.5 days. Then, extrapolating to the human anatomy, a baby’s heart begins beating on the 16th day, providing oxygen and nutrients to this living person. The unborn child has his or her own DNA and … [Read more...]
Loving life: Woman chooses life for baby, blesses family
DESLOGE— Sitting at the local clinic awkwardly in a paper gown, Dawn couldn’t stop shivering. She couldn’t … no, she wouldn’t have his baby. How could she keep something that would only be a reminder of the pain and shame of rape? That man was a monster. She had only gone on a few dates with him when he decided to force himself on her. And now she was pregnant. She was working two jobs and could barely take care of the two-year-old son she already had. She would just get a quick abortion … [Read more...]
The infinite value of every human life
A thirteen-year-old girl named Anni is seated at the piano on the stage at Carnegie Hall. She is wearing a neat white dress, and she’s playing brilliantly. The crowd applauds enthusiastically. That was one month ago. Three years ago, it was a different story. Then, Anni was huddled in a jail cell in China. She was kept there overnight without food, water, or even access to a toilet. The Chinese government had locked her up as retaliation for her father’s activities protesting China’s … [Read more...]
