YEC attendance increases, 20 make decision for Christ
JEFFERSON CITY – The Freshwater Church was the host for the 2023 Youth Evangelism Conference (YEC) held Jan. 15-16. It was sponsored by the Missouri Baptist Convention’s (MBC) Making Disciples group. This year, 461 students and youth leaders attended, an increase of 111 from the previous year’s conference. Scribner pens book on following Jesus
BRANSON – Jay Scribner is a name that is well-recognized among Missouri Baptists. A long time pastor at First Baptist Church, Branson, he retired from there in 2005 after serving 28 years. He also served as the president of the Missouri Baptist Convention and on the boards of several Baptist entities. He and Mrs. Scribner have lived in Branson for 45 years. Werner to join DR staff full-time

BOLIVAR – A new initiative of Southwest Baptist University is being established to provide for training and encouraging pastors and their wives. Called the Blair Center for Training and Pastoral Health, it is intended to help pastors and their families grow in resilience and overcome challenges in ministry. Live Nativity play presented in Springfield by Greene County Association volunteers
SPRINGFIELD – For their 40th year, Springfield area Baptists staged a play of the life of Christ in the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. Held in early December, the play is a series of scenes of the life of Jesus Christ from birth to resurrection. This year about 2,000 people sat in bleachers to see the scenes enacted. Free Christmas store offered to low-income families at Grand Oak Mission, Springfield
SPRINGFIELD – The Grand Oak Mission Center is offering a free “Christmas store” to their low-income neighbors that participate in the activities of the ministry center. David Jackson, Grand Oak Mission director, said they set aside usable gifts, that people donate and people may “shop” for items for their family members. Journey to Bethlehem attracts 1,700 to FBC Troy
TROY – The “Journey to Bethlehem” walk through nativity at First Baptist Church here had 1,700 people tour the village of Bethlehem last year. Coordinators Heather Lindsay and Diane Campbell said they expect about that many this year, and they have added some new features to the walk-through dramatic reenactment of the first Christmas. Fayette church helps Wooldridge fire transplants with housing, love
FAYETTE – When a wildfire swept through the town of Wooldridge on Oct. 22, it took out 15 homes and displaced several families. It damaged the church and some commercial buildings. One family was able to relocate to a rental home in Fayette, some 30 miles to the north. There the home was a roof over their heads but not much more. It lacked working plumbing or heating. FBC of Venice, Fla., proves to be great host for Missouri Baptist DR operations
VENICE, Fla. – The hurricane roared through on a fall afternoon, much dreaded by the residents of southwest Florida. It had been predicted for several days as weather forecasters tracked it in the Caribbean and warned residents to flee or take cover.
