Eight students from Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Baptist Student Union (BSU) saw that first-hand recently as they traveled to Honduras with churches from Phelps Baptist Association. The team worked with Howie and Marvina Hooper, former International Mission Board missionaries who returned to the mission field to begin Casa David (David’s House). Impoverished people come from miles around for treatment at … [Read more...]
Referendums seek to roll back pro-life law
JEFFERSON CITY – The recent landmark step to protect the unborn in Missouri has seemingly survived two challenges, even as critics prepare other hurdles. The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri and David Humphreys, a prominent Republican donor, submitted referendum petitions to the Missouri secretary of state’s office late last month in an effort to roll back the Missouri Stands for the Unborn Act which passed the week before and banned abortion after eight weeks. Both were rejected … [Read more...]
‘Blessing Box’ boosts Pleasant Hill’s community connection
JEFFERSON CITY – Take what you need; donate if you can. That’s the simple idea behind Pleasant Hill Baptist Church’s Blessing Box. Kevin Kohler, Pleasant Hill’s pastor, had seen similar boxes online for several years. He thought it might be a good way for the church of about 50 on a Sunday morning to be a blessing in their rural community south of Jefferson City. The simple cabinet contains pantry essentials like nonperishable food items and dry goods – as well as Bibles and tracts – and … [Read more...]
Bridging the gap: Campus ministries help keep college students from slipping away

Austin, director of collegiate ministry for the Missouri Baptist Convention, says that from the time they enter the youth program until they graduate high school, the answers started at 500 hours on the low end and only go up from there. “Now think of that investment and think of spending just one more hour to make sure they’re aware of and … [Read more...]
