RICHMOND, Va. – First Baptist, O’Fallon has been partnering with churches in southern Mexico for several years now. But as they plan for future trips and opportunities south of the borderd, they have a strategy in mind that goes far beyond simply scheduling the next trip on the church calendar. That strategic thinking is due in part, First Baptist’s Associate Pastor of Gospel Proclamation Brandon Kiesling said, to the church’s ongoing participation in the International Mission Board’s … [Read more...]

DR leaders urge Mo. Baptists to train for the unexpected
RAYTOWN – The first step to weathering a disaster is being prepared. The same goes for ministry, but doubly so when that ministry takes place during a disaster, and may involve cleaning out flooded basements, sawing away downed trees, cooking thousands of hot meals for communities in crisis or lending a patient ear to listen to a survivor’s story. Gaylon Moss, director of Disaster Relief for the Missouri Baptist Convention, said training is essential for those who are interested in serving … [Read more...]

JEFFERSON CITY – Fresh on the heels of almost 100,000 who descended on the nation’s capital to rally for life, organizers are asking Missourians to attend the Midwest March for Life, Feb. 1, in Jefferson City. Crowds gathered in force at last year’s event in Jefferson City to spread their pro-life message that every child – even those not yet born – is loved by God, but Bonnie Lee, a member of Open Heart Baptist in Columbia and a member of the Missouri Baptist Convention’s executive … [Read more...]
Pathway’s Movie Club begins ‘In the Beginning’
EDITOR’S NOTE: Once a month in 2020, The Pathway will examine a classic Hollywood retelling of a biblical story, compare it to the actual Word of God, and discuss its artistic merits. Hollywood has a love-hate relationship with The Bible. On one hand, its principles, the worldview it teaches and the Savior it points to are generally antithetical to many of Hollywood’s own values. On the other hand, the Bible offers a built-in audience and – crucially – royalty-free stories. While far from … [Read more...]
Pastor brings good news to Missouri’s capitol
JEFFERSON CITY – It’s not uncommon to see citizens strolling up and down the halls of the Capitol, seeking to have an influence on lawmakers. Though there’s nothing wrong with lobbying or urging those in power to make God-honoring decisions, Matt Goodsell isn’t here to play politics. The senior pastor of Ashland Baptist Church, Goodsell has made the Missouri Capitol his mission field, building relationships one-by-one and lovingly reminding legislators and their staffs there is a higher … [Read more...]

Mo. churches seek to break ‘Lottie’ record
JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Baptists set a goal of $4 million for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions during the 2019 Christmas season, but Missouri Baptist Convention executive director John Yeats wanted to see that goal shattered on the way to record giving in Missouri. “In 2015, the Lottie Moon Offering from Missouri Baptist churches hit its highest peak at $4,244,074 (we cannot find any amount in our records that is higher),” he said. “It is about time we hit a … [Read more...]

JEFFERSON CITY – Beginning Jan. 1, struggling Missouri Baptist churches will have a new partner as Brandon Moore heads up the Missouri Baptist Revitalization Network (MBRN). Leading a church can be a challenge even in ideal circumstances. That goes double (or triple, or ten-fold) for a congregation that needs to take a hard look at itself and determine if revitalization or replanting might be the best way to glorify God. Moore comes to the Missouri Baptist Convention staff after pastoring … [Read more...]

Lottie Moon’s home church reinvigorated to fulfill the Great Commission
Missions is alive and well at First Baptist Church Park Street in Charlottesville, Virginia. Charlotte “Lottie” Diggs Moon was born Dec. 12, 1840, in Albemarle County, Virginia. Charlottesville is the county seat. In 1857, John Broadus, pastor of First Baptist Park Street, preached a revival service at the Albemarle Female … [Read more...]

NORTH AFRICA – Their names can’t be shared for security reasons, their photos can’t be published and their ministry location can’t be disclosed, but the “R Family” wants Missouri Baptists to know just how thankful they are for the support provided through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Originally members of a Missouri Baptist church in the Kansas City area, the R Family – dad, mom and six kids – felt God’s call to North Africa. After they were accepted into the International Mission … [Read more...]
