SIKESTON – Anchor Church launched publicly during a service here, April 13. The day was centered on the good news that Jesus gave His life on the cross and is risen so that man could be reconciled to the Father. The service was highlighted by seeing three people from Sikeston follow their spiritual conversion with New Testament baptism. There were 87 people gathered in the downtown Sikeston storefront to celebrate and hear the gospel.
Anchor Church is led by Jason Davis, lead pastor, and Nat Kurzer, lead worshipper. After God began calling Jason to plant a church, the next decision was “Where?” After much prayer and counsel from other respected pastors, it was confirmed to Jason that Sikeston was the location of the mission. Anchor started as a small Bible study in the home of Jason and his wife, Crystal. As the core group grew, they prayed for God to give them a vision for getting the gospel to their city. Through those prayers, the group realized that Downtown Sikeston was the place they needed to be so that they could best share the hope of restoration found in Jesus.
In March of 2013, they began renting a building and meeting on Saturday nights in the old downtown storefront. As they began to establish the ministry, they had the opportunity to get involved in much of the city’s downtown activity. They served at a St. Patrick’s Day festival, gave out free popcorn every Friday in June during “Music in the Park” and wrapped Christmas gifts during a “Holiday Open House,” along with many other things. These events all served as an opportunity for the people of Anchor Church to build relationships with people in the community, make Jesus known and let the city experience a taste of God’s Kingdom.
Anchor Church is sponsored by Bethany Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau, Miner Baptist Church of Sikeston, Millersville Baptist Church, Advance Baptist Church, the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association, the Charleston Baptist Association, the Missouri Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board.
